CIRCO Hub Viet Nam was established as part of the global project “Go Circular” implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in coordination with the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
Yunus Environment Hub Vietnam is the coordinator of the CIRCO Hub Vietnam.

What is the CIRCO methodology?

The CIRCO method is based on an academic framework of the Technical University of Delft. It is called ‘Products that last’ and it is written by C. Bakker & M. den Hollander, e.a. This framework explains five circular business models and six circular design strategies. CIRCO expanded this framework with tools and insights, so it is useful and relevant for businesses. The method offers practical design tools, inspiring cases and examples, and it offers trainer support and interaction.

What business sectors are the CIRCO tracks designed for?

The CIRCO tracks are specifically tailored to foster circular design and business creation across various sectors. While our methodology is adaptable to many industries, it is particularly developed for construction, manufacturing, plastics, and consumer goods—including food, clothing, vehicles, electronics, and appliances. We aim to inspire and facilitate knowledge exchange, adapting our approach to fit the unique needs of these sectors, especially within the Vietnamese business ecosystem. Starting with the third track, each CIRCO track will focus on a single sector to ensure specialized attention to specific industry needs.

What type of business challenges is this training suitable for?

The CIRCO training is suitable for businesses seeking innovation and new business opportunities in the circular economy pathway. It is not suitable for CSR projects or corporate communication tasks that are looking for assistance in end-of-pipe waste management. This is because the learning process will focus on creating outcomes in thinking methods, new business models (Circular Business model), and design strategies for the main business challenges. It begins with finding ways to reduce the loss of resources/energy/materials from the upstream and transform them to achieve maximum value throughout the entire value chain.

What size businesses can participate in the project?

Businesses of all sizes can participate, including limited companies and SMEs. This project is suitable for businesses that have the potential and capability to take the plans obtained from the training and initiate the design and development of the organization’s products, services, and business in reality after completing the training.

Where are CIRCO tracks held?

CIRCO tracks are currently held in three major cities: Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

How many representatives can a company send to participate in the training?

A company can send at least two representatives to join the training, ideally one from product design and the other from sales or marketing. These representatives will collaborate as a team throughout the training activities.

Can the training participants come from different departments?

Yes, we recommend that the training process for finding a circular business model according to the CIRCO curriculum relies on knowledge and skills from various fields, including product design and development, business development, marketing, and understanding customers and other stakeholders in the business value chain.

Is it necessary for the training participants to attend every session?

The training participants must attend all the activity sessions completely. However, if there is a necessity that prevents attendance, please inform in advance. Nevertheless, the main training participant cannot be absent from the training.

In case of no previous experience in Circular Economy/Circular Design, is it possible to attend the training?

Yes, it is possible to apply for the training because this course is suitable for those who want to get started. However, there should be a product case in the business that is interested in transforming into a Circular model to use as a case study in learning, ready to present and exchange within the group throughout the training.
